Valley Celebrates Neuroscience Awareness Month

Anthony D’Ambrosio, M.D., co-director of The Gamma Knife Center at The Valley Hospital, took his audience on a visual tour of the brain during a presentation titled “Brain Tumors 101” held on May 30 as part of Neuroscience Awareness Month. Dr. D’Ambrosio explained the basics behind brain tumors to the crowd of students, doctors, nurses and patients. He explained the different types of tumors and how they are treated and managed.

An important tool in treatment is Valley’s Gamma Knife. “Gamma Knife is very beneficial for individuals with a metastasis,” Dr. D’Ambrosio explained. Using photos and MRI scans, he showed how Gamma Knife treatments pinpoint cancerous tumors and minimize radiation exposure to the rest of the brain.
